In the Field

Wolf Track on Baked Mud. Lost Creek, AB, Canada. September 11, 1994.

To the best of my memory, this is the first wolf track I ever saw in the wild. I was mountain biking with a friend in a remote area in southwest Alberta when we stopped for a drink of water. I looked down and saw the brown/orange spruce needles on the heavily cracked mud. I instantly took out my camera and started walking around looking for the best natural composition. Then suddenly the track just jumped out at me. Based on size, shape and location there was no chance it could be anything but a wolf. It was an exciting moment.
